The Critical Point

‘The Critical Point’ explores movement dramaturgy, expression, the partner’s presence and psycho-physical control. It poses vital, body-related questions that open up a dialogue between the already formed and that which is being formed in the process of constituting the performer. Statics and form are only a bridge, a vehicle that takes the action taker to critical points. Self-control and technique are only the tools to help them find themselves – the unpredictable ones, the critical ones.

Jakub Gontarski

Two Paths Studio

Two Paths Studio seeks to develop a training which centres around the ideas of confrontation and in-depth understanding of the function of training in studio work, drawing on the martial arts experience of the Studio leaders, Przemysław Błaszczak (aikido) and Jakub Gontarski (capoeira). The first stage of Studio’s work focused on ‘two paths’ – two different movement traditions, Japanese and Brazilian, attempting to find a common territory that a performer, or ‘practitioner’, can draw from.

Jakub Gontarski

graduated from Wrocław-based 13 Stunt School. He is a movement recreation instructor specialising in self-defense (AZS-AWF Wrocław), certified personal trainer and movement trainer (under the direction of Steve Maxwell, USA). Jakub initiated The String of the Body and Martial Partnering workshops dedicated to exploring expression, presence, dramaturgy and creativity in martial arts within the path of Warrior-Performer. To find inspiration, he travels to Brazil, where he documents his expeditions and takes active part in candomblé rituals.
