Practising Somaesthetics

This workshop is an introduction to somaesthetics in both theory and practice, but the theory will come through experiential practice aimed at heightening body consciousness and somatic sensitivity in perception and movement. The exercises will also involve the use of body scanning and the principles of such scanning will be explained, as will the logic involved in making the movements more efficient, easy and enjoyable.

Richard Shusterman

Richard Shusterman is the Dorothy F. Schmidt Eminent Scholar in the Humanities and Director of the Center for Body, Mind, and Culture at Florida Atlantic University. He is the leading theorist of the interdisciplinary research field of somaesthetics, which he originated in the late 1990s, based on philosophical ideas but also on his practical experience with different body disciplines.
