Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics and singing. The class will begin with a high-intensity whole-body warm-up including the basic elements of capoeira taken from Capoeira Regional, Capoeira Angola and Capoeira Contemporanea (contemporary style). As is customary in capoeira, the session will be based around music (traditional beats, tempo and dynamics) and will include learning the basics of Afro-Brazilian instruments such as berimbau, atabque, pandeiro, agogo, reco-reco, and traditional capoeira songs (Regional and Angola). Participants will learn alternative variations of movement transitions and scores used in individual and partner work. The class is suitable for those with no previous experience and for practitioners of other martial arts and forms of movement.
